About Delfland Nurseries

Delfland Nurseries is a family business owned and run by husband‑and‑wife team John Overvoorde and Jill Vaughan. John has been involved in plant raising for over 40 years. Our customers include some of the biggest producers in the UK as well as people who buy very small quantities.

We have 3ha (7½ acres) of glass. Most of the heating comes from biomass boilers burning woodchip. There is also a tunnel and standing‑out area for hardening off plants.

Organic Plants Online

All of the plants we sell through our online shop are certified organic and we are fully registered with the Soil Association. Our online range is ideal for smaller growers, city farms, smallholders and allotment associations — anyone who wants professional‑quality organic plants without needing to order in bulk.

You can order trays of plants for delivery in the week you require them, making it easy to plan your planting schedule. Discounts are automatically applied when multiple trays are ordered for the same delivery week.

What We Grow

Across the nursery we produce around 40 million plants a year. These include glasshouse crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, as well as leeks, onions, celery, brassicas, salads and herbs. Plants are supplied in blocks, modules, plugs or pots depending on the needs of the grower. If it can be grown from seed, there’s a good chance we grow it. More than 50% of our plants are grown in peat free media with the remainder grown in 30% reduced peat. 

Wholesale Production

The main part of our business is our wholesale operation, which is not available through the website. Wholesale plants are grown to order and delivered on pallets throughout the year.

Retail Shop

We also have a nursery shop on site, open all year. It stocks seasonal ornamental plants for bedding and containers — most of them grown here — along with a wide range of vegetable, salad and herb plants. We also offer large glasshouse plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, chillies and aubergines.

If you’re planting up containers, you can choose from our home‑grown geraniums, fuchsias and trailing plants, or pick up one of our ready‑made hanging baskets or pots in a range of colour schemes.

The shop also stocks terracotta pots, oak tubs (recycled barrels), bagged compost and garden sundries.
